Caged Access Ladders for Safe Height Access

Under Section 19 of the ‘Work Health and Safety Act’, employers are legally obligated to ensure the ‘health and safety’ of [workers] is not put at risk from work carried out as part of the conduct of the business. Rooftop access, especially for a multi-storey facility or tall building, can be quite dangerous if there is inadequate fall protection in place. To comply with Australian Standards, a ladder cage must be provided where there is a risk that a person could fall 6 metres or more from a ladder.

Accidents do, unfortunately, happen so we must do whatever we can to mitigate the risks. Easy Access with Concertina Stairs — Disappearing Ladders

Are you concerned about entrapment between building floors during an emergency situation?  Maintenance personnel, for instance, could be installing ductwork in a confined space when the fire alarm goes off. Are those individuals able to exit the building safely and in a timely manner?

Improve safety procedures and ensure adequate access by incorporating disappearing ladders as part of your dwelling’s infrastructure.

These fine concertina stairs are quite different when compared to our other products. The ‘Top-Opener Escape’ is a manually-operated concertina stair.

The ‘Escape’ models are made out of diecast aluminium and feature non-slip treads. This range is appropriate for ceiling heights up to 4300mm. The tread width starts at 200mm and can span up to 580mm, depending on the width of the opening.

These types of disappearing ladders are on-grade between 60-70 degrees, depending on ceiling height, risers will vary from 270mm up to 300mm, and the height of the hatch, without any additional cost, is 240mm.

The hatch and ceiling panel are made of laminated timber board in natural finish and easily painted to match existing decor. Hatch sizes and prices are available on request. Fully assembled unit before installation.

Excellent for Commercial Applications

The AM-BOSS 'Escape' is especially useful in commercial establishments as it can be easily opened and closed from the top and from the floor below. This ease of use helps minimise interference with floor space when contractors and staff are operating nearby. If service above is necessary for lengthy periods of time the service person can easily pull the spring assisted ladder up and close the ceiling panel from above to minimise interference with the floor space below. There is no danger of a service person being locked accidently on top of the roof or inside the ceiling space and of course, in an emergency, quick positive escape is possible.

Each ‘Escape’ comes with one telescopic handrail by default, for safer ascending and descending of the concertina stair.

Access Extras

To improve safe mobility around our disappearing ladders there are optional guardrails that can be installed around the hatch opening as part of fall prevention if required.

The AM-BOSS ‘Electric’ Model

AM-BOSS ‘Electric’ is the ultimate choice in retracting ceiling stairs. Fully automatic with the push of a button, this is the ‘cream’ of electric concertina stairs with low noise operation as the ceiling panel opens, and the stair moves down in a smooth continuous motion. Push the button again and it will silently retract and close the ceiling panel.

These disappearing ladders are also custom-made, and come fully assembled. Manufactured in diecast aluminium with non-slip treads, laminated timber hatch (white) with insulated ceiling panel (white covered underside with a natural finish that can easily be painted). Each comes with one telescopic handrail by default, for safer ascending and descending of the concertina stair.

Optional extras include: guardrail around the top of the opening, infrared remote control with one or two transmitters, smoke detector sensor.

In the event of a power failure this unit will switch to battery backup. This system has emergency opening so it can also be manually operated. Includes automatic limit stop and safety shutdown at obstacles.
